SAURASHTRA HISTORY - POEM

Saurashtra bhashaana sasarnu orsu mullo ami vatta kerle hundaasi,

Veda Puran kaalammu ami Saurashtra desumna hundaasi,

Sasarnu orsu mullamu ami jukku santhoshkan na hundasi,

Daan, dharum, dev, dhouro, geeth, nach meni na hundhasi.

Sonno, vajjir, khani, peni, kagothi amko kai unno hundesi,

gumpukan na sonnaani vajjiruk aaso podi thurdaan jhevdaak avyaasi,

Sasarnu lhakkaana am menkaan jhevdo kholi moryaasi,

Baigi sesthenu aski dakshina dikku seena avyaasi,

amko magaani, sommu haath kaam seena rajaan amko moryaath diyaasi,

Saath so orsu mullo, Vijayanagar raajyammuna amko Jivan thaam diyaasi,

Saurashtra bhaashaana ami sodnaatho vatta kerle hundaasi,

Phalla Walajah, Kanci, Kummon, thanjour, Dindigul, Madurai, Porungudi, meni na avi cheraasi,

ami sesthaamaski dhouraan bhandhili chokkadna  am jivnam chalaresi,

Aski kaammu unchokanna am menkaan chokkad jivaraasi,

Am mai bhashaa Saurashtrana sasarnu orsu phallani angun ami sodna vatta keroraasi.

Meaning in English

We were speaking our Saurashtra bhasha thousands of years back,

During Vedic and Puranic times we were in the land of Saurashtra desh,

Thousands of years back we were living very happily,

Alms, charity, gods, temples, songs and dance, we were with all these,

Gold, diamonds, eating and drinking, there was no shortage of anything,

Then in groups came the muslim invaders attracted by gold and diamonds,

Thousands of our people died in wars,

All who were left out moved towards south,

Seeing the skills of our people’s handiwork in looms and jewellery kings respected us,

700 years before we were given place to live in Vijayanagara Kingdom,

Still we were speaking our Saurashtra language without break,

Then we settled in places like Wallajah, Kanchipuram, Kumbakonam, Thanjavur, Dindigul, Madurai, Paramakudi and the like,

Wherever we settled we built temples and are living well,

In all fields our people are shining and living well,

And even after thousands of years we are still speaking our mother tongue Saurashtra.

ஸாத் ஸோ ஒர்ஸு முல்லொ, விஜய நக3ர் ராஜ்யம்முனா அம்கொ ஜிவன் தா2ம் தி3யாஸி,

ஸௌராஷ்ட்ர பா4ஷானா அமி ஸொட்னாதொ வத்த கெர்லே ஹுந்தா3ஸி,

ப்ஹ2ல்ல வாலாஜா, கஞ்சி, கும்மோண், தஞ்சௌர், தி3ண்டுக்கல், மதுரை, பொருங்குடி மெனினா அவி செராஸி,

அமி ஸேஸ்த்ஹாமஸ்கி, தௌ4ரான் ப்ஹந்திலி, சொக்கட்னா அம் ஜிவ்னம் சலரேஸி,

அஸ்கி காம்மு உஞ்சகன்னா அம் மென்கான் சொக்கட் ஜிவராஸி,

அம் மாய் ப்4ஹாஷா ஸௌராஷ்ட்ரானா ஸஸர்னு ஒர்ஸு ப்ஹல்லா அங்குன் அமி ஸொட்னா வத்த கெரொராஸி.
